Lovely Transformation.....

As soon as I saw this piece I knew I liked it.  It took me awhile to definitely commit to purchasing it as I have never been drawn to this style of furniture which is sometimes referred to as Depression Era or Waterfall pieces.  But after my transformation on the piece below which turned out super pretty and sold within 24 hours I decided to give this next piece a chance.

She is a lovely Highboy or Chest of Drawers - I have heard this style referred to as both.  I prefer Chest of Drawers as when I picture a Highboy I picture a piece with many drawers on legs.
Below is a Vintage Highboy I restyled.

This piece definitely does not have legs but she has some pretty feet!

Along with the pretty feet she has an unusual carved floral piece on top.  The lines along the sides and on the feet paired with the floral carving on top and the draped swags on the hat door make me think this was a transitional piece.  Somewhat of an Art Deco influence with Art Nouveau mixed in!

The drawers are solid and well made with dovetailed sides.  The fronts of the drawers had the geometric wood grain patterns.  I know some of you may cringe when you see that I painted them.  She had to have a complete face lift!

Sorry - I have no before photos with the drawers in as they came home the day prior to the case and were already painted.

I gave this beauty three coats of paint in an off white that I mix myself and have named Sterling as it has a very slight hint of grey.  The case received three coats of a soft mint green.

I distressed her in all the right places, she received a coat of clear wax and I returned the fabulous Original Hardware to the drawers and door.

Aren't they great!  Possibly Bakelite but I did not test them.  Either way they are stunning.

She just made her debut in Booth G21

Round Restyle...

I found this little treasure in the corner of a garage at a local estate sale here in Bexley, Ohio where I live.  I knew right away that despite the dust, dirt and dings she would be a lovely addition to any home with a much needed restyle.

I gave her a cleaning and I patched some small areas around her base where she needed some tlc from sitting in that garage!  I used wood putty which I sanded smooth after it dried.

She is quite unique with a round body, two shelves, one working drawer and three faux drawers.

I removed all the hardware and painted her with a coat of off white paint that is one of my custom colors named "Sterling".  She did receive two coats of paint to make sure she had a nice even coat.
After the paint was dry I lightly distressed the piece, waxed, and replaced the original hardware.

She turned out beautiful!  She will be a unique touch to her new home.

This piece would be perfect as a side table or even a night stand.

If interested you may purchase this item at my house in Bexley until she makes her grand debut at
Heritage Square Antique Mall
where I have three booths.

Nothing Depressing Anymore....

I purchased this Depression Era Chest of Drawers from an antique dealer friend of mine who has a great eye for pieces that I would love to restyle!  This piece is Solid Wood with dovetailed drawers front and back.  Original hardware on the bottom 3 drawers.

I usually refer to furniture pieces as a female but this piece, at least in the before state, looks more like masculine to me.

He had great details in the wood with contrasting wood grains.  Yes, I painted over this but I knew he would look much better with an updated look.

The Original Pulls below have a great design and great lines as well.

The curved front top is also a nice feature.  As well as the linear details on the sides at the top and along each of the front sides.  Then at the bottom there is a chunky linear detail.  I knew I could pretty this piece up!

I decided to paint this a pale mint green and it was definitely the right choice.  I ended up doing three coats to make him perfect!

I lightly distressed it in all the right places but not too much.  That was followed by a coat of clear wax.

This Depression Era Chest turned into a lively, happy piece.  Nothing depressing here!

He sold from my home in less than a day before I even had a chance to take it in to one of my booths!  The new owner loved it the moment she set eyes on this piece!  "I'll take it!"
I am glad it is going to a wonderful new home that the couple is busy decorating in a Shabby Chic style which is going to be primarily white or neutral in colors with pops of color here and there.
What fun!

From Flesh Tone to Fabulous...

I saw a photo of this Vintage Vanity or Desk online and loved the details and loved the fact that it already looked restyled and ready to go!  I made arrangements to pick it up the next day and when I arrived I was in for a surprise.

Here is the photo I saw online.

Here is a photo I took of the piece outside showing it's true color.

When I first saw the photo I thought the piece had been painted off white.  It was not.  This piece had been painted a flesh color.  Not a pretty pale peach but a not so attractive flesh tone.

The Vanity is Solid Wood and is a well built piece with dovetailed drawers.  It is as solid as you can get - this piece weighs a ton with the drawers in!

I painted the drawers a pale aqua blue.

I then painted the cabinet my custom mixed color - "Sterling".  This appears off white but has the smallest amount of grey in it.  Super pretty!

The top had been painted at one time and when they sanded the paint off they had left white paint here and there.  So I sanded and redid the top as well.  The wood is super pretty!

I contemplated not distressing the Vanity but she has such pretty lines and decorative details that I knew would pop with some distressing.  I was worried about the flesh tone peeking through.  I opted to distress it and it turned out beautiful.  The flesh tone did pop through in some places but with it showing only here and there the color was much nicer.  It was nicer in small doses rather than the entire piece being painted that particular color.

I waxed the piece and replaced the original hardware.

This piece can be used as a Vanity with a Pretty Wall Mirror hanging above it or it can be used as a Kneehole Desk.  I at first thought of it as a desk but the back is stenciled Vanity which was it's original purpose.

She will be making her debut in one of my booths but not sure which one yet.  Please look for her today or tomorrow in Booth C96, G20 or G21
