A Little Birdy Told Me...

This fabulous Antique Handcrafted Chest came to me in an unattractive green color.  The photo below is the first photo of saw of the piece and I thought I would like the color....to me it looked like it had some blue in it.  When my husband and I carried it out of the house and into the sunlight we realized: Nope, it is an ugly green!

Before:

This is a Great Petite Chest.  Solid Wood, Dovetailed Drawers and Original Brass Locks in the Drawers.

You will have to excuse me for lack of in between photos....I was in a rush to get many pieces done as I was totally transforming one of my three booths at Heritage Square Antique Mall.

Here are a couple shots of the drawers after I stenciled.

I did paint the chest.  I did not like the green...it was too green.  The color I painted it is a custom paint that my husband and I came up with for our house.  Our entry way, stairway and living room are painted this color.  It is like a dark deep blue with a hint of green in it.  So hard to describe but such a beautiful color!

Our Living Room in this color:

I stenciled the birds and branches on the drawers - it was my first time every stenciling anything!!  I moved the stencils around and played with them a lot so it would not look like a bird stencil you will see on any other piece of furniture....I wanted it to be a unique and original piece.

I lightly sanded the drawers and the rest of the chest as I did not want the stenciling to look new and crisp!  I wanted it to look like it had some age to it.

I applied a coat of clear wax to seal and protect the top and the stenciling.

She is available for sale in my J08 Booth at

The booth was recently transformed and all the items are new to the mall!

The chest would look wonderful in any room from the entry way to living area to bedrooms and more!

She is an Original, One of a Kind piece!

J08's Makeover at Heritage Square Antique Mall...WOW!

I have been busy for the past few weeks preparing to give my J08 booth a total makeover.  When I opened J08 it was right at the beginning of summer and with five children ages 6 to 13 I was super busy and the booth did not get the attention it deserved or that I wanted to give it!

Here are before photos of J08.  It did not look bad but it was not particularly eye catching or cohesive.

I worked for weeks preparing new pieces of furniture in a Shabby or Cottage Chic laid back Beach Living Style.  I went through my smalls and picked the perfect accent pieces to coordinate with this look.
All my hard work paid off:

Antique Solid Oak Handcrafted Chest with Birds on the front.  Vintage White End Table painted off white and lightly distressed.  Fabulous Petite Drop Leaf Stand with one Drawer and Brass Capped Feet.

Fabulous Vintage Desk painted Off White with Pale Blue Drawers.  LOVE this piece!  The Original Hardware is some of the best I have ever seen!  Bow Front Drawers.  Dovetailed too!

Vintage Coffee Table with Amazing Details.  Carved Claw and Ball Feet and Original Floral Inlay Peeking through the off white paint.

Vintage Side Chair painted Blue with New Upholstery.  Desk is filled with Fabulous Finds...a Vintage Wood Desk Organizer, a Chrome Globe, an Antique English Toast Rack perfect for letters, a Vintage Wall Phone, a Fabulous Wire Wall Rack for books and magazines, Pottery Barn Lamp and Antique Brass Scales which look fab as wall decor!

Vintage Carved Beveled Mirror above desk - has original price tag on back for $710 and then another price tag on the front from a design store marked $590!  It is stunning!!

Close up of Vintage Coffee Table

Antique Empire Table with Drawer.  Freshly Painted and Lightly Distressed.  Perfect for an entry way, a desk, a sofa table, next to your bed and more!

Booth is filled with Fabulous Vintage Mirrors and Great Accent Pieces!

And Something Blue...

This is the most darling petite table!  This piece just has such a wow factor in such a little package!  She started out with pretty lines, nice legs and gorgeous brass capped feet.  But with a little TLC and some paint and minor distressing she now can turn heads!

Before Photos:

Lots of Potential.  Solid Wood, Dovetailed Drawers, Original Hardware and Brass Capped Claw Feet.  Wow!

And lots of damage!  Someone needed to buy some coasters!

I promise to get better with taking photos along the way on every piece.  I get started on the transformation and forget those interim photos!  Sorry!

I primed this little table first and then painted her a soft blue that fit her perfectly!

Water Rings All Gone!

I love this table...I know I love most of the pieces if not all that I restyle!

Here she is with her leaves up...she looks like she has her wings spread and is ready to fly!

Here is a sneak peek at some other lovely tables that are due to arrive at Heritage Square within the week.  Maybe even today!

I am redoing my J08 booth at Heritage Square Antique Mall and hope to get some of it done today.  I am being realistic on "some" as I have to get 4 of my 5 children ready for horse camp which starts Sunday, I need to take 2 daughters clothes shopping, I hope to clear the garage of some furniture and I promised the two youngest a trip to the pool today!  Wish me luck!!

Mid August I hope to transform my C096 booth so when I get time in the next few days I plan on marking the majority of items in that booth with red sale tags! Stop by for some bargains on furniture and smalls.

G021 is full of fabulous finds....items priced $50 or more is negotiable on price.  Please make any offers at the front desk.

The Ugly Duckling!

This piece was in pretty sad shape when I rescued her from a tag sale that appeared to be items from either an antique dealer or someone who appreciates antiques:

But this little beauty had been overlooked for too long until I saw potential in her and even had to rearrange a van full of other treasures just to squeeze her in to get her home!

The finish was worn, all the drawer pulls were gone and the top needed wood filler.

But she had a lot of potential.  Solid Wood, a Great Bow Front, Dovetailed Drawers and Pretty Legs.

I knew I wanted to distress this piece to show the original wood so I used an off white paint with primer included in the paint.  This saves a step and also helps with easier distressing.

I found a nice little surprise when I went to clean out the inside of all the cobwebs and dust:

Thankfully the wasps inside were dead!!  But when I saw this I took the piece outside as I did not know if the nest was alive or not and with 5 children in the house I did not want a swarm in my house!  I do not have many photos of the middle process of the transformation as my mind was on the nest and not photos!

Thankfully my husband made it home and removed the nest which was quite old.  That was a relief!  And I was back to restyling with photos!

I painted the dresser an off white and the drawers a pale blue.  The inside of the drawers I decided to paint a blue with a hint of purple for some fun!

I added some fun floral hardware and distressed the piece and applied a coat of clear wax.

This Ugly Duckling Sure Turned out Beautiful!

I love this paint combination!

She will be on her way to Heritage Square Antique Mall tomorrow and you can find her in booth J08.
