Early this summer I looked and looked for a display cabinet for the artwork our five children bring home from school. I had the perfect spot for it in my breakfast room all picked out but could not find the right size cabinet to fit the space. It is a short wall with an air intake on the floor on one side and on the other the thermostat. I ended up finding a Solid Wood Handcrafted piece that looked like it matched the Shaker Table and Chairs that came from The Prairie House in New Albany. BUT it was too large for the intended wall. I had to have it as it is a gorgeous piece so my desk was displaced so this piece could fit in my breakfast room for all to view the fabulous art of my fabulous children.
Doesn't it look fabulous....like my own mini art gallery.
Please ignore the top...I had not styled it yet. This photo was taken right after bringing it in the house and filling it with artwork.
Well wouldn't you know last week I found the piece I had been looking for in the perfect size for that wall! My desk was just moved into a new room just the week prior and the handcrafted cabinet is already filled with artwork so the perfect display cabinet will now be the perfect piece for someone else's house!
Here she is Before...
The piece looked nice as found but I had not painted anything in awhile so I guess I was just itching to paint something. I painted this piece in a slight off white chalk paint. I did use two coats to get the exact look I was after.
Before she was distressed:
I then distressed her in all the right places. I do still need to give her a coat of clear wax but it is pouring the rain outside so that will have to wait. My blog could not however as I am a day late already! Once waxed it will bring out or highlight the distressed areas. I always feel like wax makes the distressing look better.
She has great hardware as well!
She is waiting to make her debut at Heritage Square Antique Mall as soon as it stops raining and as soon as my husband is available to help move her...she is a bit heavy.
Please stop by our three booths at the mall...G021, C096 and J08
