Eclectic Chic...Shabby to Chic China Cabinet....

This is another piece that I have had for about a year and just finally got around to restyling her....wow!  Did she turn out to be a beauty!

When I purchased her she had great bones but was a little rough around the edges.  She had some chips in the decorative trim, some scrapes, bruises and one door was stuck shut.  But she had great potential!  Solid wood, mortise and tenon construction and a hidden secretary in the top drawer.  And the metal mesh (what do you call that stuff?) in the doors - wow!  I love that stuff!

I painted this piece with an off white chalk paint.  It did take two coats to get proper coverage.  I then painted the interior with a fabulous blue that I mixed myself.  I love the shade of blue!!  It made the piece!

I distressed the cabinet in all the right places even the interior.  She is dressed up in her original hardware.

She is very stunning and I have received many compliments on her.

I picked up another stunning Vintage China Cabinet this weekend.  This one is about the same height, a little wider, has three large doors with the convex glass (wow!) and again a secretary in the top drawer!  I hope to share her transformation soon so someone can take her to her new home in time for the holidays.

Please visit my booths - G021, C096 and J08 at Heritage Square Antique Mall.  There you will find an eclectic mix of Shabby Chic, Industrial, Vintage and Antique pieces.  There are some fabulous buys to be had!  I also just took in two wonderful pieces.  I love them so!  I wish I could keep them.  Once is an Antique Vanity with Tri Fold Mirror and the other could be used as a Vanity, Desk or Sofa Table.  I am hoping I have some before photos of these two pieces so I can share them with you later this week!

Eclectic Chic...Display Your Fabulous Finds Here...

Early this summer I looked and looked for a display cabinet for the artwork our five children bring home from school.  I had the perfect spot for it in my breakfast room all picked out but could not find the right size cabinet to fit the space.  It is a short wall with an air intake on the floor on one side and on the other the thermostat.  I ended up finding a Solid Wood Handcrafted piece that looked like it matched the Shaker Table and Chairs that came from The Prairie House in New Albany.  BUT it was too large for the intended wall.  I had to have it as it is a gorgeous piece so my desk was displaced so this piece could fit in my breakfast room for all to view the fabulous art of my fabulous children.

Doesn't it look fabulous....like my own mini art gallery.
Please ignore the top...I had not styled it yet.  This photo was taken right after bringing it in the house and filling it with artwork.

Well wouldn't you know last week I found the piece I had been looking for in the perfect size for that wall!  My desk was just moved into a new room just the week prior and the handcrafted cabinet is already filled with artwork so the perfect display cabinet will now be the perfect piece for someone else's house!

Here she is Before...

The piece looked nice as found but I had not painted anything in awhile so I guess I was just itching to paint something.  I painted this piece in a slight off white chalk paint.  I did use two coats to get the exact look I was after.

Before she was distressed:

I then distressed her in all the right places.  I do still need to give her a coat of clear wax but it is pouring the rain outside so that will have to wait.  My blog could not however as I am a day late already!  Once waxed it will bring out or highlight the distressed areas.  I always feel like wax makes the distressing look better.

She has great hardware as well!

She is waiting to make her debut at Heritage Square Antique Mall as soon as it stops raining and as soon as my husband is available to help move her...she is a bit heavy.

Eclectic Chic...The WOW Sideboard....

I picked up this sideboard a year ago!  I loved it then and I love it even more now!  It sat in my garage for over a year!!  When I bought the piece two of my antique dealer friends were at the same moving sale and they both told me..."Beth, you cannot paint this piece - it is too fabulous!"
So it sat and sat.

This sideboard was stunning as found even in it's slightly ran down condition.  It had some veneer missing, a broken mirror behind the right set of shelves and the top had been abused.

I thought and thought about it (for a year) and decided there was no other alternative than to paint it despite the plea of my friends.  It would have required a lot of work to get her back in the original condition.  And all the fabulous carvings...they would look wonderful painted and distressed!

This beauty is a multi tasker! She is a sideboard, a china display cabinet, she has two sets of shelves and in the top drawer she is hiding a beautiful secretary! Wow!! I truly have never seen anything like this before!

I started by cleaning the sideboard.  She did need a good cleaning.  I used wood putty to fill in the couple missing pieces of veneer and I replaced a piece of trim that was found in one of the drawers.  I sanded the putty smooth so no one will be wiser that she was a little beat up.

The shelves on either side had mirrors behind them.  The mirror on the right was broken and missing a large piece.  I removed the broken mirror but left the mirror on the right as it is original to the piece and I love old mirrors.  This one is showing it's age perfectly!  I later painted the wood behind the removed mirror to match the rest of the piece.

I painted her with chalk paint in an off white hue.  It did take more than one coat as her finish was dark.  But it was worth it as she is stunning in white!  I opted not to paint the interior of the secretary drawer as it is in perfect condition and the writing surface is covered in leather.  I also left the interior of the cabinet the original dark red.  Perhaps my friends will be glad I left parts of her in their original state.  Actually they both have seen the piece and love it....they think she turned out even more beautiful than before.

I slightly distressed the piece and gave her a coat of clear wax.

She is available in booth G021 at Heritage Square Antique Mall

I have two other booths as well with an Eclectic Mix of Shabby Chic, Vintage, Modern, Antiques and Industrial - wow!  Something to suit every one's taste!

Eclectic Chic...Six Sided and Perfectly Shabby...

This little beauty started out in excellent condition....that was a nice change!!  It is a quality made piece by Heritage.  Super heavy - solid wood!  No MDF or pressed wood on this piece anywhere!!  She did however have a couple water rings on the top and the lovely designs on the sides where calling out to me to paint them!

I started with a primer coat....and then remembered the Before Photo!  I promise some day I will remember to take better before photos!

After the photo shoot I finished the primer and then applied a top coat.
She then received a top coat of Off White Paint. I lightly distressed the piece and waxed it with clear wax.

The details on this piece is amazing and the Original Hardware...WOW! I love it! The hardware goes all the way around on all six sides.  The piece is amazingly heavy showing it's quality.  There are two doors that open to ample storage.  Great place for throw blankets, books, remotes, games and more!  (Photo below has only one door open and I apologize for the bad photo!)

She is available at Heritage Square Antique Mall in Booth J08.  She has been there only about a week or so but as always I will consider offers.  Plus I have many more pieces waiting their turn to come in to the mall and I need some room to bring more pieces in!

Eclectic Chic...Vintage Desk Redo...

I love to restyle Vintage Desks.  They tend to be quality pieces with solid wood and ample storage unlike the cheap MDF desks you can buy today.

I recently found this beauty and she is definitely a quality piece.  She is super solid and quite heavy!!  Solid wood and dovetailed construction.

She also has fabulous details and design.

This is the first piece I have ever painted with chalk paint and it turned out nicely.  I used some latex paint I had in a slight off white hue....Honey Milk.  I mixed in some Plaster of Paris to thicken up the paint.  It was strange at first painting with such thick paint but it covered nicely.  I have heard you only need one coat with chalk paint but this was not the case with the desk.  It required several coats to give it the look I wanted.

The chalk paint dries quickly and distressed nicely.  I highlighted the decorative details on the desk with some sanding.  I then used a clear wax on the surface.

She is sitting pretty in Booth G021 and is priced to sell at a low price of only $148!  I have many other pieces waiting their turn for a spot so I priced this beauty so she can find her new home quickly!

Please stop by and take a look at all three of my booths - G021, C096 and J08 - for an Eclectic Mix of Antiques, Vintage, Shabby Chic, Industrial and more to suit every one's tastes!
