From Flesh Tone to Fabulous...

I saw a photo of this Vintage Vanity or Desk online and loved the details and loved the fact that it already looked restyled and ready to go!  I made arrangements to pick it up the next day and when I arrived I was in for a surprise.

Here is the photo I saw online.

Here is a photo I took of the piece outside showing it's true color.

When I first saw the photo I thought the piece had been painted off white.  It was not.  This piece had been painted a flesh color.  Not a pretty pale peach but a not so attractive flesh tone.

The Vanity is Solid Wood and is a well built piece with dovetailed drawers.  It is as solid as you can get - this piece weighs a ton with the drawers in!

I painted the drawers a pale aqua blue.

I then painted the cabinet my custom mixed color - "Sterling".  This appears off white but has the smallest amount of grey in it.  Super pretty!

The top had been painted at one time and when they sanded the paint off they had left white paint here and there.  So I sanded and redid the top as well.  The wood is super pretty!

I contemplated not distressing the Vanity but she has such pretty lines and decorative details that I knew would pop with some distressing.  I was worried about the flesh tone peeking through.  I opted to distress it and it turned out beautiful.  The flesh tone did pop through in some places but with it showing only here and there the color was much nicer.  It was nicer in small doses rather than the entire piece being painted that particular color.

I waxed the piece and replaced the original hardware.

This piece can be used as a Vanity with a Pretty Wall Mirror hanging above it or it can be used as a Kneehole Desk.  I at first thought of it as a desk but the back is stenciled Vanity which was it's original purpose.

She will be making her debut in one of my booths but not sure which one yet.  Please look for her today or tomorrow in Booth C96, G20 or G21

Fabulous Finds and Vintage Goodness....

This weekend I took some photos of my booths at Heritage Square Antique Mall to share with everyone.  It has been awhile since I updated you on my current inventory.

I have three booths at Heritage Square - G20, G21 and C96.  Today I will feature G20 and G21 since they are adjoining spaces.

I went into the mall this afternoon and marked some pieces down with Red Sale Tags.  I rarely do this as my pieces sell well on their own and I always price them fairly to begin with.  But I got a little carried away this past week and my shed is full, my van is full, I have pieces in my husband's truck AND I have too many pieces in the garage which I promised I would not use for furniture storage if I could have the entire shed to myself.  Opps!

So please take a look in G20, G21 and C96 for some fabulous deals on these great pieces.  Some have not even been there for a week!

Fabulous Antique One Drawer Work Table with Old Chippy Blue Paint!  It does not get any better than that!  This piece was also marked down today!  Hurry up and get in there and see her....she has had a lot of interest over the internet!

Antique Period Butler's Chest dating to the Late 1700s!  This piece is stunning!  On the bottom side of the 2nd Drawer down the Cabinet Maker - Thomas Vorhees signed his name in the most beautiful script I have ever seen!  That alone sold me on this piece and I paid a pretty penny for this handsome chest!  If only I had room for it in my own house....I am still trying to think where I can squeeze it in!  This piece has hand cut dovetails that are scribed into the wood!  It is hand planed as well!  Wow is all I can say on this piece!
This even got a red sale tag!!  I have been told by experienced dealers to send this piece to auction as it is an incredible find but I am just too busy for that right now.

Antique Block Front Chest with Carved Claw Feet Front and Back!  This piece came from my own house.  When we moved I could not find a place for her.  It was a sad day when I took her to the mall.  She is a beauty!  She came from an estate sale here in Bexley, Ohio where I live.

To the left you can see a Vintage Lowboy painted Off White.  Look in the photo above to see this lovely piece as well.  Sale priced at only $140.

Almost mine...

I have been seeing the most beautiful bedrooms posted on Facebook and Pinterest and was dreaming of making over my own bedroom.

My Inspiration:

An antique dealer that I know had a fabulous Vintage Solid Wood Full Size Bed for sale.  It was not like the bed in the photo above but she was abeauty so I purchased it to eventually incorporate into my own room.

Isn't she pretty?

Somewhat to my dismay my husband decided he likes the bed we currently have better.  Since I originally envisioned an antique iron bed like the one in the first photo I decided to part with this beauty.

The bed has a nice large headboard with pretty details.  Carved accent at the top, petite finials and nice trim.  The footboard was just as nice with trim and capped finials.

The finish was nice but I just knew she would look stunning in off white!  I painted the bed with a custom paint color that I call "Sterling".  It is an off white with just a hint of grey.  Beautiful just like sterling jewelry!

The bed received three coats of paint.  I then lightly distressed the details in all the places that would naturally have some wear.  That was followed with a clear wax.

The bed turned out even better than I imagined!

This piece was a custom paint job and was purchased for their daughter.  What a  lucky girl!  I was pleased to hear they love the bed!  My customer thinks it turned out beautiful and that the distressing was done perfectly!  It is always nice to receive a compliment!

The bed would have been a nice start to my own bedroom makeover but I am thrilled it will be enjoyed by a nice young lady and perhaps passed down through the family.  I also did a custom paint job on a Vintage French Provincial Dresser with Hutch and a Vintage French Provincial Night Table for the same family.  I will probably be writing about those transformations at a later time.

If you are local to Columbus, Ohio and need a custom paint job please contact me.  I would be happy to work with you on a piece you already have or perhaps a piece I have that is waiting it's turn.

Also please stop by my booths if you are in town.
